the staircase strategy
We all must have noticed when we visited any archeological place, preferably a castle. Just like chess, a king must be protected. And, for this reason, a king always preferred being heavily guarded.
But have you seen the staircases to the rooms where valuable things or the king usually lived? The rotated structure of the staircase is not just for beauty or aesthetics, instead it has a hidden strategy.

Only 10% of the world’s population is left-handed. So, when the attackers follow the staircase, they usually are at a disadvantage as they find less space to move their sword (look at the soldier going upwards).
But the defenders have an advantage to strike at the attackers as their right-hand side is moving downwards and has enough space to swing the sword (look at the soldier above).
Even a simple staircase design had a strategic purpose. How fascinating!
Now that is a true example of a defensive maneuver.
